Think of paint protection film (PPF) like a screen protector for your vehicle, but better. Also known as a clear bra, not only does paint protection film protect, it heals. Light scratch on the film? No problem. The XPEL PPF heals with hot water, a heat gun – or simply sitting outside in the sun with temperatures above 85F+. Leaving your beautiful glossy finish always looking perfect and defect free.

How it works

Paint Protection Film (PPF) is a high performance, self-adhesive, clear-coated aliphatic polyurethane film to protect against roadway debris, parking-lot nicks, scratches, oils, bug acids, bird droppings, harmful UV rays that fade car paint, and many other environmental elements that may damage your vehicle’s paint.

The clear coat consists of special elastomeric polymers that allow scratches to “heal” with heat for XPEL. Because of the ultra-clear high performance acrylic adhesive, it can be applied to a broad range of surfaces including (some) plastics and chrome.

Paint Protection Film Warranty

XPEL provides a 10 year manufacturer warranty. This warranty covers the paint protection film from cracking, yellowing, odd bubbling or film failure. It does not cover staining and for this we highly recommend coating any film with Ceramic Coating to enhance chemical resistance.

Before PPF

The short answer is, “it depends.” Paint protection film can change the look, depending on the type of film used or the type of surface it’s applied to. For example, generally, the paint protection film (XPEL or Kavaca) is clear. However, XPEL offers a stealth version that turns your vehicle’s paint into a matte finish. Or, imagine how the shine of paint protection film can change the color if applied to black matte plastic. If you’d like to better understand how this might look, you can request to see a small piece of material over the area in question.

There are a few noteworthy differences between XPEL and their leading competitors. Some are thinner and some are thicker. We have found that Xpel Ultimate PLUS is the best combination to offer a beautiful finish and long lasting durability where others fall short. The Xpel is crystal clear after installation, and is long-lasting. Other companies we have worked with, were a constant carousel of warranty claims and issues. With Xpel we have had 0 warranty claims! Contact us for more information and professional insight to the specific brand(s) you are considering!

If your vehicle has emblems on the hood or fenders from the manufacturer, there are 3 different options on how we can work with that. First, you can put Paint Protection Film around it. This may result in seeing a subtle line of protective film around the emblem if closely inspected. You could also remove the emblems (suggested) and we can install them back in the exact same position on top of the Paint Protection Film. Lastly, if you choose, we can remove the emblem entirely.

Installing PPF

The paint protection film we use is first computer cut to match your vehicle’s make/model. We then modify these templates to wrap over accessible edges and delete emblem cutouts if necessary before being sent to the plotter. The plotter is a large printer that’s designed to precision cut the material so that it does not have to be cut with a razor blade while on your vehicle. After cut, the material is bonded to your vehicle surface with a special adhesive provided by the manufacturer.

Paint Protection Film is cut on our large 72” plotter. While some shops have smaller printers which limits certain cuts, we invested in the top of the line printer to service all our needs. It is able to be modified by computer software to ensure the best fit and to hide the possibility of visible lines after installation. In select cases, fine adjustments may be done with specialized tools to remove excessive paint protection film when on the vehicle.

While several precautions are taken to minimize contamination under the paint protection film, it can happen. Tiny specs of dust, hair, or lint from clothes, can get under the PPF and create tiny specs or “dimples” underneath the film if not careful. Knowing this, we take extra precaution to keep our environment and our clothes free from such contaminants. In the small chance we finish applying paint protection film to an area and notice too many contaminants, we’ll redo it to ensure we meet our level of quality.
